Merriman Theatre Group has been based in Midsomer Norton since 1998 and has helped more than 600 young people develop performance skills, perform on stage and build confidence and social skills.
MTG is for young people ages 10-18, and produces two shows each year, plus other opportunities for performances in concerts and other events.
The Junior Company (The Minimen!) is for ages 6-9 year olds, who perform occasionally with the older children and also present their own show each summer.
Merriman has received several awards from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association for Youth Achievement (for Jesus Christ Superstar in 2011 and for A Christmas Carol in 2014), alongside many nominations for Best Youth Production and Best Musical. The company's work in promoting performing arts and community events has been recognised by the Midsomer Norton Town Council, B&NES and the Midsomer Norton Community Trust.
Merriman rehearsals take place at Somervale School on Saturday mornings in term time and during half term. The senior company meets from 10.30am - 1pm, and the junior company from 10.30am - 12noon.
The main productions take place in July and December each year.
